As I have mentioned to you previously, we really loved the Marina hotel in Shimla. It is a new hotel fitted to a very high standard. We had a lovely spacious room, with all the amenities and a fabulous view. The staff were excellent, particularly the restaurant day time manager. There was a very good selection of food including Indian, Chinese and Continental. Although we did not use it there was a large, well equipped gym and the two massages I had in the spa facility were total bliss.
We had a good guide in Shimla and we were grateful that he suggested 2 hours on the toy train would be enough for us. As he said, the seats were very narrow and uncomfortable and the train was cold. We meet other Europeans who had traveled on it when it was raining and they said the windows leaked and they had got wet. Having said that we enjoyed our time on there but were pleased to see Sarop waiting for us at the station, and being able to continue the rest of the journey by car.
The JW Marriott in Chandigarh was a first class business hotel. Again we had a lovely spacious room with all the amenities but this was a very big, busy hotel. There were so many guests and staff everywhere, particularly in the restaurants that it did not make dining a pleasant, relaxed experience.
There was however a good selection of foods available and the service was good.
Although the Four Points by Sheradon hotel in Delhi was close to the airport there was no aircraft noise and we enjoyed our time there. Alan’s knee was still painful and it was difficult for him to walk too far so the staff very kindly put us in a room close to the restaurant and reception. We had a lovely comfortable room and enjoyed a very nice meal in the restaurant in the evening and a good breakfast the following day. The service here was excellent.
All in all we had a wonderful time in the North. We stayed in very nice hotels, the food and service was very good and we were looked after very well by our driver.
